HYDERABAD, June 5: The Sindhi Adabi Board Press Employees Union has threatened to observe hunger strike till death against non-payment of four months’ salaries to them.

The union president, Abdul Qadir Durrani, and general secretary, Ali Nawaz Kehar, in a statement issued here on Thursday, said that employees of the board had not been paid their salaries for the last four months and their families were facing starvation.

They said that in the wake of difficulties arising out of non-payment of salaries, an employee of the board had died of brain haemorrhage.

They said that another employee, Mohammad Qasim Babbar, had become paralysed and he had no money to get medical treatment.

Mr Kehar said that his ailing wife had died and he was not able to provide her medical treatment.

The union leaders said that the board employees who had been retired several years back were waiting for payment of their dues.

They called upon intellectuals, prominent figures and literary organizations, particularly the Sindh Adabi Sangat, to come forward to save the board from total destruction.

Over two dozen employees of the board also held a demonstration outside the local press club in protest against the non-payment of their salaries.
