MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 26: Kashmiris will hold protest demonstrations on Sunday to mark the 66th anniversary of India’s invasion of Jammu and Kashmir as ‘black day’.

The government, political and religious parties and an alliance of Kashmiri mujahideen groups fighting occupation forces in India-held territories have planned big public meetings and rallies.

In Muzaffarabad, a public meeting is being held under official patronage on the premises of the district headquarters complex.

AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, federal minister for Kashmir affairs Chaudhry Birjees Tahir, Leader of Opposition in the AJK Assembly Raja Farooq Haider and other leaders, including Pakistan-based representatives of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference will address the meeting.

Later, a procession will march to the UN military observers’ office near Domel to deliver a memorandum there.

Simultaneously, a big public meeting called the ‘Azm-i-Azadi Conference’ will be held at the University College Ground here under the aegis of the United Jihad Council, an alliance of over a dozen mujahideen groups.

At the conclusion of the conference, participants will stage a rally on the main road outside the ground, according to an organiser.

In a statement on the eve of the ‘black day’, UJC chairman Syed Salahuddin said: “We will give a message to the people of the base camp of freedom movement (Pakistan and AJK) that as long as Jammu and Kashmir is under Indian occupation, Pakistan’s stability and AJK’s independence will remain at risk.”

The state-run AJK television and radio stations in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur will run marathon transmissions.
