PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak Tuesday said peace talks with Pakistani Taliban should be started without any delay as per consensus decision of the All Parties Conference (APC).

In a statement issued here, he said delay in holding talks in the light of the APC resolution would provide a chance to the elements that wanted to sabotage the dialogue process.

Leaders of Khattak’s Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) party including its chief Imran Khan have repeatedly shown their annoyance over delays in the paces talks. They regretted that the party should have asked the ruling PML-N at the Sept 9 APC to set a deadline for holding the talks.

The chief minister said people and government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bearing the brunt of terrorist acts, which had claimed precious innocent lives.

Since the May 11 elections, the party has lost three of its lawmakers to militant attacks, including a minister who was killed on the first day of Eidul Azha.

Khattak urged the PML-N government to initiate the dialogue process in order to give peace a chance.

Citing the report by Amnesty International issued on Tuesday, the KP chief minister said the federal government should get the drone attacks stopped.
