QUETTA, June 3: Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yousuf has said that the federal government would redress the province’s grievances over the issue of distribution of resources in the National Finance Commission Award.

Talking to a group of newsmen on Tuesday he dispelled the impression created by the anti-development elements that the construction of Gwadar deep-sea port would deprive the native people of their rights.

Mr Yousuf stated that these elements were opposing the mega development projects in order to keep their political grip intact and mislead the people about the on-going development schemes in the province.

He accused the disappointed elements that had lost the trust of the voters in the polls of indulging in subversive activities. The defeated elements at behest of foreign forces had planted bombs and fired rockets to create panic amongst the citizens, he added.

Chief minister said that his government would deal with such elments with iron hands and warned that no one would be permitted to take the law into their hands.

He asserted that the provincial and federal governments have close relations and the latter had assured the former that the just rights of the Balochistan province would be given.

Regarding the differences over the NFC formula amongst the federating units the chief minister informed that the federal government was committed to redress the grievances of Balochistan.

He lauded President Pervez Musharraf’s efforts in paying special attention to Balochistan by launching mega development projects.

Mr Yousuf further apprised that the provincial government would not betray the people of Balochistan and maintained that by promoting close ties with the federation his government could do better in providing people with basic facilities.

He opined that a peaceful atmosphere was necessary to attract investors for development activities in the province. Chief minister said that the coalition was functioning very well as all coalition partners had developed mutual understanding.

He rejected the reports that the house of the leader of Jamhoori Watan Party, Nawab Akbar khan Bugti in Dera bugti had been besieged and stated that his government would not allow to encircle the residence of the veteran politician.
