RAWALPINDI, Sept 29: A woman was tortured and later suffocated to death allegedly by her husband in Waris Khan on Sunday, police said.

Before fleeing from the scene, the alleged killer informed his neighbours that he had killed his wife and her body was lying in the house. The police arrived at the crime scene and shifted the woman’s body to District Headquarters Hospital.

The victim, 21, contracted third marriage with the accused, a driver, after separating from her former husband in Ramazan.

The newly-wed couple had shifted to a house in Glass Factory area on Saturday after the girl’s parents expressed their annoyance at her for getting married for the third time and then developing differences with her new husband.

SI Mukhtar Ahmed, who is leading the investigation, said according to preliminary investigation, the woman was tortured and then suffocated, apparently with a pillow.

However, he said the real cause of the death can only be known after the postmortem report was received.— Staff Reporter
