15 freed from police lock-up

SHEIKHUPURA, June 1: On the complaints of the local people, the Public Safety Commission chairman accompanied by members raided Sadder police station on Sunday and got freed 15 people detained illegally.

Chairman Hafiz Ehsan Ahmad Khokhar advocate and his team members found 15 people detained in the lock-up without any justification. Those detained included Salim, Asim, Ahsan, Asif, Sarfraz, Zaheer Abbas, Dawood, Muzammil and Sher Afzal.

The SHO told the PSC team that three of them had been detained on suspicion of having their involvement in murder cases, but their arrests were not mentioned in roznamcha.

The team also found that youth Sarfraz was severely tortured by the police during the detention. The PSC chairman warned the SHO that strict action would be taken against him if he was found involved in any irregularities in future.

Talking to newsmen, Mr Khokhar said that complaint boxes would be placed in front of all police stations throughout the district.
