HYDERABAD, May 31: Five men were injured in a bomb explosion, the second in the current month in Hyderabad city, in a Digri-bound passenger bus (MNQ-5580) at Sabzi Mandi roundabout here on Saturday.

The bomb was planted under a seat on the rear side of the bus and its explosion badly damaged the vehicle.

Seven passengers had boarded the bus before the explosion took place.

Those injured included Shafiq alias Rafiq, Rafiq Ahmed, Haji Ismail Leghari and Kareem Bux who were shifted to Civil Hospital. A passerby, Azam, was also injured by the explosion, causing minor injuries to him on his left shoulder.

According to the bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials, a timer was fitted with the local-made bomb weighing between 300 to 400 grams.

The BDS and the police officials found some splinters, including cells and wiring of the bomb.

Panic gripped the area following the explosion.

The Hali Road police have registered an FIR against unidentified terrorists and begun investigation.

Sindh minister for sports and youth affairs Naeem Ishtiaq, Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNAs Prof Khalid Wahab and Shamim Akhtar and MPA Aslam Pervez visited the site of the blast as well as the injured who were admitted to the hospital.

The minister directed the hospital authorities to ensure provision of proper medical treatment to the victims of the blast.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar has taken a strict notice of the blast and directed the administration to immediately arrest those involved in it, reports APP.

In a statement issued in Karachi on Saturday, he said that the anti-social elements are trying to mar peace in the province but they would not be allowed to do so.

He expressed grief at the blast and sympathized with those who sustained injuries.
