HYDERABAD, May 31: Pakistan Railways general manager Iqbal Abdul Samad has said that the ministry of railways is awaiting a green signal from the Indian government for the restoration of rail link between Pakistan and India.

He was talking to journalists at the Hyderabad railway station after inaugurating the computerized reservation branch of the railway station here on Saturday.

“We are ready to resume the rail service and it is now up to India, which had severed rail links with our country,” he said, adding that preparation to this effect had been made.

He said that the railway would be converted into a corporation hopefully by the end of this year.

Answering to a question about the condition of railway tracks in the country, he said that the main track over 8,000 kilometres was in perfect condition but the branch lines were in the poor state.

Mr Samad said that after making some changes in the main track as per the world standard, condition of branch lines would also be made better.

He said that his department had received 40 coaches from China which were in running condition and another batch of 135 knocked down and semi-knocked down bogies would be received soon from China, which would be reconditioned in the local carriage factory.

With the opening of the Hyderabad reservation office, the people could reserve their seats and get return tickets for Karakoram, Shalimar and Karachi express.
