PESHAWAR, May 30: Peshawar Town Council-I has sacked 173 tubewell operators and finished on working (third) shift on tubewells all over the city, the sources said.
A group of affected tubewell operators told Dawn that the Town-I administration had introduced two working shifts by ending the third working shift or night shift.
They said the administration had announced a new working hours schedule for them, which started from 7am to 7pm and from 7pm to 7am in the morning. It was a gross violation of their basic working rights, labour laws and ILO’s convention.
