KARACHI, May 30: Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has said that School Management Committees are working throughout the province to improve the conditions of schools and Rs290.00 million have been allocated in the 2002-03 budget for the purpose.

He was talking to a delegation of the Health and Educational Foundation headed by Yaqoob Mirza, here on Friday.

He said that all the DCOs had been directed to make SMCs more effective by removing the hurdles in the way of promotion of education.

“Monthly scholarships of Rs100 are being given to poor girls on the basis of 22-day attendance per month, up to the middle standard. For this purpose Rs266.998 million have been earmarked in 2002-03,” said the minister.

He said that well-to-do people should play their part by cooperating with organizations working for social welfare.

He stressed that fake organizations should be discouraged and the real ones encouraged to serve the society.

Mr Yakoob Mirza requested cooperation by the Pakistan Baitul Mall and other departments for free operations and other administrative needs.

He said a mega project was in the preliminary stages of implementation for treatment of eye diseases in Surjani Town. He appealed to the chief secretary for provision of ambulances for the hospital in North Nazimabad Block J.—PPI
