SPSC exams for ASI

Published September 13, 2013

THIS refers to the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) examinations for the posts of assistant sub-inspectors in the police for candidates who are in service.

I have been serving in the Sindh Police as a constable for the last five years. I have done my master’s in criminology from Karachi University. There is no opportunity for qualified candidates in the police department.

The competitive examinations is the only way for direct induction into higher posts like ASI.

There is no uniform policy for promotion for highly qualified police officials.Posts for ASIs have been advertised several times by the SPSC between 2008 and 2013, but due to political influence the recruitment was cancelled. Finally, examinations were conducted by the SPSC for in-service candidates in February and the results were announced on July 12.

However, my seat number was not mentioned in the result. I decided to go for scrutiny and submitted two applications. When I didn’t receive any answer from the SPSC, I personally approached the commission’s office in Hyderabad. But I didn’t find my applications requesting for scrutiny.

I submitted a new application with challan of Rs750 for scrutiny. An official of the SPSC told me that the reply of the scrutiny result would be sent by post.

After 14 days, I received a letter which mentioned Sept 9 as the date of scrutiny having no official logo, but it was signed by the deputy assistant controller.

It clearly shows the SPSC examination staff is biased and the future of our youth is in unsafe hands. I request the chairman of the SPSC to inquire into the matter and remove incompetent officials from the examination department.

Unfair means

THE Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) recently conducted examinations for the post of ASI in the Sindh police for Sukkur. During examinations some students from Sukkur used their mobile phones for cheating, besides other unfair means.

I ask the authorities concerned if this is merit. Function of the commission is to select candidates on the basis of merit. I request the prime minister to take action in this regard.
