LAHORE, Sept 3: Two alleged criminals were killed in crossfire with CIA on Bund Road in Shadbagh early on Tuesday.

Police claimed one of the suspects, Ismail, was accidentally killed by the firing of his own accomplices, while the other was shot down by policemen. Ismail alias Shani had been taken into custody by Iqbal Town CIA police a few days ago after he and an accomplice had killed a police constable and injured a head constable outside the sessions courts.

Kotwali CIA police claimed a police team on Tuesday raided a place identified by Ismail as a hideout of his gang members. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire. Police said their team retaliated, as a result of which one of the suspects was killed, while Ismail suffered gunshot wounds and was killed from firing of his accomplices, who fled the scene.

Police identified the other deceased as 28-year-old Nasir Iqbal of Kasur district. Ismail, who was nominated in a murder case and had gone to a court to see someone two days ago, had opened fire on the CIA police who were there on a tip off regarding his arrival.

CIA SP Muhammad Umer Virk told Dawn Ismail had injured some people during firing in Shafeeqabad four days ago and was nominated in 11 cases of multiple offences. He said circumstantial evidence and witness accounts showed he and his accomplices were also involved in robbery-murder of two brothers in Kahna in 2004 and another such incident involving a man in Chuhng.

The SP said Ismail’s three accomplices, including Hamza, were still at large. He added Ismail, who had killed constable Kashif Ali and injured Head Constable Muhammad Anwer outside the District and Sessions Court two days ago, had been captured by the injured Anwer and later taken into custody by police.

Meanwhile, the bodies were shifted for autopsies and a case was registered with the Shadbagh police.

ACCIDENT: An unidentified 10-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a train at City Railway Station on Tuesday. Police said the boy accidentally came in front of the Tezgam and died instantly.
