MARDAN, Aug 29: A policeman was killed and another critically injured after unidentified armed motorcyclists opened fire on them near the Shagu Pull here on Thursday.

Constable Zubair was killed and constable Ayaz injured when they were on patrol.

Policemen showed up after the incident, cordoned off the area and began a search operation. However, no arrests could be made until night.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ihsan Ghani on Thursday said police were reformed in the province to meet the current and future challenges.

He said this during a visit to Mardan city to review work on the Mardan central jail building.

The IGP was accompanied by AIG (operations) Masood Khan Afridi, IG (jails) Zakir Hussain Afridi, DIG Mohammad Ali Babak, DPO Gul Afzal Khan Afridi and other relevant officials.

The officials briefed the IGP about the work on the building. The IGP ordered strict security in and around the jail and said all security measures should be taken to prevent terrorist attacks.
