Appeal to ABAD

Published August 24, 2013

THIS is with reference to the letter by Saima Mairaj (July 27). The contents of the letter were conveyed to the builders concerned for knowing their point of view on the subject. They have narrated their position and expressed willingness to resolve the issue.

Before rendering any comments or passing any judgments, it is considered expedient to describe the role of ABAD (Association of Builders and Developers) in such cases. ABAD, a registered organisation comprising over 600 leading companies of Pakistan engaged in real estate development, has constituted over 30 subcommittees, including a complaint subcommittee.

Highly experienced and senior members of ABAD are inducted into this subcommittee to resolve disputes between the members of ABAD and allottees/buyers.

On receipt of any complaint directly from the allottee or from any other agency such as the Sindh Building Control Authority and the National Accountability Bureau, both parties are accorded more than a reasonable opportunity of being heard. A fair, impartial and judicious assessment is made leading to an amicable settlement.

In this case, ABAD is writing a separate letter to Ms Mairaj with the request to contact ABAD. A date of hearing will be fixed in the near future to be attended by her or her authorised representative fully conversant with the facts of the case and an authorised representative of the builders. It is hoped and expected that the matter will be resolved amicably.

S. JAVED JAFRI Secretary General, ABAD Karachi
