KARACHI, May 26: The Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) has clarified that the Society’s Board of Directors had been reconstituted by the government on May 20.

It said that after the reconstitution of the Board, there were now eight directors representing the government and seven elected directors representing the fishermen on the Board.

The first meeting of the reconstituted Board was held on May 24 which elected the chairman and vice chairman according to the FCS bylaws which state: “The Board of Directors at its first meeting shall elect amongst themselves a chairman and vice-chairman.”

The FCS further stated that the meeting elected Sardar Manzoor Ali Khan Panhwar, provincial Minister for Fisheries, and Abuzar Mariwara as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. Out of the 15 directors, 14 voted in their favour.

It said that Haji Shafi Mohammad Jamote, also a director on the FCS Board, did not attend the ‘special meeting’ in spite of the fact that he was formally informed and was present at the harbour.
