BAHAWALPUR, May 25: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leader Maulana Fazal Rehman has threatened again that if talks between the opposition and government fall through over the LFO issue, the opposition parties will continue struggle till the achievement of their objectives.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, the Maulana said that the opposition wanted to see president Pervez Musharraf in ‘sherwani’ instead of military uniform.

The president should step down as COAS and get himself elected through the normal constitutional process, he said.

He said in the presence of LFO the assemblies were powerless and the legislation could only be possible when the members and the assemblies were delegated full powers.

The JUI chief said that now both Pakistan and India were forced by the US to initiate dialogue to settle their longstanding disputes. This was despite of the fact that both countries were not willing to enter into dialogue as none of them wanted to make the LOC as permanent international boundary, he added.

He claimed that if Kashmir was granted the status of an independent state, the America would succeed in establishing its bases in Kashmir which would be dangerous not only for Pakistan and India but also for the Kashmiris.

Criticizing the role played by Pakistan in the Afghanistan war, he claimed by siding with the US the country had suffered an economic loss to the tune of Rs10 billion.

The Maulana said that after the fall of Taliban’s regime in Afghanistan, the country was now facing threats on its western borders.
