KASUR, Aug 11: Hundreds of acres of land in adjoining areas of the Head Balloki was submerged due to a medium level flood in the River Ravi on Sunday. The water flow at the Head Balloki was 70,000 cusecs.

The maximum water has been discharged into the Lower Bari Doab Link Canal (LBDC) and Baloki Sulemanki Link Canal to control the gradual rise of water level in the river Ravi, but sources said the water level was on the increase.

Meanwhile, the district administration has given red alert to residents of five villages because of gradual rise of water level in the River Sutlej on Sunday.

The residents of Chanda Singhwala, Bhikhi Wind, Gatti Kalanjer, Mastayki and Nagar villages have been asked to vacate villages and also shift their livestock to safe places. Standing crops in the vicinity of the river have already been submerged. The district administration and the Rescue 1122 claim to have made all arrangements to deal with any emergency-like situation.

On Sunday, the water level in the River Sutlej was 25,000 cusecs. According to the district flood control centre, at least 45,000 cusecs of water was expected to flow through the river during the next 24 hours.

Various departments, including Health, Livestock and Rescue 1122, have already set up their relief camps to meet any emergency.

Meanwhile, land erosion in Sutlej is devouring farmland and other properties. A check post of Pakistan Rangers near village Pattan was swept away due to land erosion.
