HYDERABAD, May 25: Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians president Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has condemned the alleged atrocities being committed against PPP activists by the “Shirazi group” and the Thatta district government officials.

He was speaking at a press conference at the residence of PPP MPA Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi here on Sunday.

Mr Khuhro announced that the PPP would launch a protest movement against the district government functionaries if activists of the party were continued to be harassed and responsibility of the consequences would rest on the Sindh government.

He said since the general election, the Thatta district government machinery had been victimizing PPP activists and its supporters through the police. He said the police should refrain form becoming a personal force of the Shirazis.

The PPP leader demanded that the Sindh government should take notice of the excesses being committed against the people of Thatta.

He said Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Ms Heer Soho had been making similar complaints and the adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, had found people in illegal detention which proved that people were being subjected to torture.

The leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly accused the Sindh government of turning a blind eye to complaints of the PPP and its voters in the Thatta district.

Thatta PPP president Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro and MPA Saussi Palejo, who were also present on the occasion, lashed out at the Shirazi brothers for implicating PPP activists and supporters in what they called false cases and forcing them to abandon their houses in the district. They 250 party activists had been booked in false cases. Murderous assaults had also been made on the lives of activists.

They expressed concern over the lawlessness in Thatta and criticized the Sindh government for not taking any action to improve the situation.

They pointed out that PPP activists had approached courts and staged protest rallies and sit-ins but to no avail. They said they would continue their struggle.

At a separate gathering, Mian Mohammad Walhari of Tando Allahyar, who contested against a PPP candidate in the general election, along with his supporters, announced joining the PPP.
