BADIN, May 23: The representatives of CBA workers union, Army Welfare Sugar Mills, Badin, have expressed concern at the disdainful attitude of the mill management and have warned it to refrain from harassing the workers and sacking them.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, Mohammad Iqbal and Abdul Salam Memon, the president and general secretary respectively of the mills workers union, alleged that they were called by the mill management on Tuesday and forced to wind up union and stop all union activities, else coercive action would be taken against them.

They said that the workers always remained faithful to the mill’s interests, but in return they had been sacked from their jobs.

They said that the mills first step was abolishing the union, depriving them of their rights, which they enjoyed under labour laws.

The workers warned if their six-point charter of demands was not considered and accepted they would launch a protest campaign in the district.

The charter of demands include that the mill management should refrain from controlling the union workers’ activities, and stop sacking workers from their jobs.
