KARACHI, May 21: Defence Housing Authority (DHA) defeated City District Government Karachi (CDGK) by nine wickets to become Group ‘D’ champions in the 12th HinoPak trophy inter-firm cricket league here on Tuesday.

Both DHA and CDGK qualified for the quarterfinals after the latter finished runners-up in this group.

Batting first in the match at Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground, CDGK were restricted to 165 for seven in the allotted 40 overs with Nazim Wahab scoring 53 that included five boundaries.

DHA reached their target of 166 in 30.3 overs. Sajid Hanif led the way with a knock of 65, including seven hits to the fence. Col Fazal Abbas slammed an unbeaten 52 with the help of six fours and put on 111 with Sajid for the opening stand.

Meanwhile, in another match at UBL Sports Complex, Central Police defeated Lahore Mills Stores by eight wickets.

Police’s heroes were Wasim Naeem (51 not out with five fours) and Nadeem Shaikh (50 with six fours and a six) after they set a modest target of 123.

Earlier, Wasim also excelled with his leg-spinners to snap up four for 40.
