Sanitary workers observe strike

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, May 21: A large number of sanitary workers here on Wednesday observed token hunger strike outside the local press club against non-payment of their dues.

Kishan Raja, Moula Bux, Sono, Mevo, Sakina, Hurmat, and others complained that they have not been paid their salaries and pension for last three months.

SENTENCED: The district and sessions Judge Naushahro Feroze awarded ten years imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000 to Matee Khan Pathan for possessing chars.

The convict would under go two years more imprisonment, in case he fails to pay the fine.

Matee Khan of Dara Adamkhel, NWFP was arrested by the excise police in July 2002.

COMPENSATION: The district Nazim, Masroor Jatoi, DCO Khursheed Naeem Malik and the chairman, District Zakat Committee, distributed Rs125,000 from Zakat fund among 37 victims of village Qadir Bux Lashari whose houses were gutted.
