Pemra, PU sign MoU

ISLAMABAD, May 20: The Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has been playing vital role in encouraging private sector to promote electronic media, therefore many licences are being issued to operate radio stations and TV channels in private sector, said Pemra Chairman Mian Muhammad Javed on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a ceremony of signing of MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Department of Journalism, Peshawar University, to conduct research for electronic media’s promotion in the country and improve working of Pemra.

The MoU was signed between Syed Shah Jahan, chairman of journalism department, and Yousaf Aziz, general manager of cable TV network, Peshawar.

Vice Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Hussain Gillani, along with teachers and students, witnessed the signing ceremony.

Mian Javed said that in just one year the authority had granted 28 licences for radio and seven for TV channels.—APP
