PESHAWAR: Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq said on Sunday that peace in Afghanistan was the top priority of his country and its foreign policy.

Speaking to Dawn.Com on the sidelines of a seminar organised by University of Peshawar's Department of Political Science, titled “Pak- Afghan relations in the changing world scenario”, Ambassador Sadiq said reconciliation among all ethnic groups and stakeholders in the war-affected country is the only solution for restoration of peace in the region.

Muhammad Sadiq said official trade volume between Pakistan and Afghanistan is about $2 billion while the unofficial trade volume is about $5 billion thus making Afghanistan the second largest importer of Pakistani goods after United States.

He added that thirty thousand Afghan students have graduated from Pakistani universities and data is a witness that about 30 per cent of the human resource running the affairs in Afghanistan has graduated from Pakistani universities, adding about 2000 Afghan students were granted scholarships by the Pakistani universities.

Sadiq further said that a newly-built Liaquat Ali Khan Engineering University at Balkh has been handed over to Afghan government and several other educational and infrastructure projects were also in pipeline
