TOBA TEK SINGH, April 20: After failing to get his name cleared, Amjad Warraich has fielded his wife, Farkhanda, a former MNA, in NA-79 and 92.

Interestingly, Warraich’s brother-in-law Sajjad Sohal is in the race for NA-93. Farkhanda and Sajjad got their party National Muslim League symbol (Huqqa). Both were Warraich’s covering candidates.

Warraich’s NML had not only fielded its candidates in three NA seats – two in Toba Tek Singh and one in Faisalabad but had also fielded five candidates for PA seats in Toba Tek Singh, four in Faisalabad district and one in Jhang.

In NA-92, Farkhanda is now contesting against her brother-in-law (Warraich’s brother) Khalid Javed Warraich who is a PML-N ticket-holder. Warraich’s another younger brother Bilal Asghar Warraich, an ex-MPA, a candidate of the NML from PP-84, Gojra, is in the run against his sister-in-law Fauzia Khalid Warraich (wife of Khalid Javed). The latter is a PML-N ticket-holder.

The returning officers of all three national assembly constituencies NA-79 (Faisalabad-Samundri), NA-92 (Gojra) and NA-93 (Toba) had earlier rejected the nomination papers of Warraich. Subsequently, the LHC Multan bench ruled that Warraich could not contest on any of the seats due to the Supreme Court’s 2008 verdict against him.

Another interesting thing is that the PML-Q, which had two NA and one PA seats after the 2008 election in Toba district, has failed to field a single candidate here this time round.

The PTI also has not fielded any candidate in NA-94, Kamalia and the PPP could not field a candidate in PP-87, Rajana.
