GUJRANWALA, July 4: Police on Thursday booked Hafizabad district election commissioner and 36 presiding officers in a poll rigging case on the orders of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

National Assembly seat NA-103 (Hafizabad) was captured by PML-Q’s Liaqat Abbas Bhatti in May 11 general elections.

The defeated candidate, Shaukat Ali Bhatti of the PML-N, filed a petition in an election tribunal alleging rigging in the polls.

The tribunal conducted an inquiry into the allegations and sent a report to the CEC who cancelled the poll results of the constituency and ordered a probe into the role of district election commissioner and 36 presiding officers involved in the process.

The probe found the accused guilty after which the CEC ordered registration of a case against them.

Following the orders, Hafizabad city police registered a case against the district election commissioner Ray Abdul Ghaffar and the presiding officers.
