TOBA TEK SINGH, May 16: Police claimed on Friday to have held three dozen prize bond numbers’ sellers during several raids in the district in the last few days.

Muhammad Abbas, a former bank officer, his brother Muhammad Yasin and some other members of their family were among those arrested.

District Police Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Gujjar had received information about the gang’s activities. The accused had been running the business in the garb of currency changing, the police said.

A team, headed by Saddar police SHO Sardar Aslam Dogar, raided several places in three days and arrested the accused with Rs300,000 in cash and prize bond chits worth millions of rupees.

It is learnt that Abbas enjoys patronage of some local influentials who have approached police to plead his release.

ARRESTED: The city police on Friday registered a case against a health department vaccinator accused of issuing appointment orders on behalf of the department.

Shaukat Pervez had allegedly appointed 15 people after taking Rs20,000 from each. The accused was exposed when the candidates went to join the department.

On the orders of EDO Dr Zulfiqar Ali, the police have registered a case under sections 420, 468 and 471 PPC and arrested the accused.
