ISLAMABAD: Gunmen dressed as paramilitary police killed nine foreign tourists in an unprecedented attack in the Himalayas of Nanga Parbat on Sunday, in a security failure bound to embarrass the new government just weeks after it took office.

The bodies of the victims were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad for post portem and other legal formalities.

The night-time raid - which killed five Ukrainians, three Chinese and a Russian - was among the worst attacks on foreigners in Pakistan in a decade.

One of the victims also held a US passport, a US official said, without giving further details.

The deaths of the Chinese are a particular blow for Pakistan, which hosted Chinese Premier Li Keqiang last month in a bid to boost trade ties with the Asian giant via their shared border in Gilgit-Baltistan.

China issued a statement condemning the attack and calling for Pakistan to “severely punish” the perpetrators.

Moreover the National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Gilgit incident, whereas Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan declared that the attack on foreigners was an attack on Pakistan.

Spokesperson for the proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Ehsanullah Ehsan, talking to from an undisclosed location claimed that the Janud-e-Hafsa faction of the militant organisation had carried out the attack.

Ehsan said that the attack was carried out to "avenge the killing of their front-rank leader, Waliur Rehman, and to express anger at the international community for its continued support to drone strikes."

Earlier Reuters had reported that another banned militant group Jundullah as claiming responsibility for the attack and had quoted the group's spokesman, Ahmed Marwat, as saying "These foreigners are our enemies and we proudly claim responsibility for killing them and will continue such attacks in the future as well.”

The gunmen stormed into a base camp, killing Chinese and Ukrainian climbers in an area of the far-flung north not previously associated with violence or Islamist militancy.

Officials said five Ukrainians and a number of Chinese were killed. One Pakistani also died and one Chinese survivor has been recovered, the government said.

The climbers were staying at a first camp, around 4,200 feet, for Nanga Parbat, one of the highest mountains in the world, in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

“There were nine foreigners and one Pakistani. The incident took place around 10:00 pm (1700 GMT Saturday). They were mountaineers,” Diamer police official Mohammed Naveed told AFP.

“Gunmen came and opened fire on them. It is confirmed that they have been killed,” he said. Five Ukrainians were among the dead, Ukraine's ambassador to Pakistan Vladimir Lakomov told AFP.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar told parliament that one Chinese survivor had been rescued.

The Himalayas in northern Pakistan offer some of the most spectacular climbing in the world. Its peaks are a magnet for experienced mountaineers, often from Europe.

While Gilgit-Baltistan has seen deadly sectarian violence targeting Pakistan's Shia Muslim minority, foreigners have never before been targeted in such a remote part of the region, which officials said was inaccessible by road.

Helicopters were dispatched to recover the bodies, and that police and paramilitary had been ordered into the area, officials said.

Nisar told parliament that the attackers were dressed as Gilgit Scouts, a paramilitary police unit, and accessed the camp with the help of two guides whom they kidnapped.

“They abducted two guides and through them reached the area. One guide was killed in the shoot-out. One is alive. He is now detained and being questioned,” he said.

The interior minister conceded there was no police or security escort for foreigners up in that area of the mountains.

The top bureaucrat and top police official in Gilgit-Baltistan were on Sunday suspended, state TV said.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned these inhuman and cruel acts, ordered to conduct thorough investigation, and apprehend the culprits to bring them to justice,” the government said.

Nawaz extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, saying that “the people and government of Pakistan stand by you in this hour of huge distress”.

Officials also spoke to the Chinese and Ukrainian ambassadors on Sunday to express their condolences, the foreign ministry added.

“Those who have committed this heinous crime seem to be attempting to disrupt the growing relations of Pakistan with China and other friendly countries,” it said.

This is a huge disaster for our fragile tourist industry. Thousands will suffer because of this.

It makes one both laugh and cry to see this story directly under the Sunday magazine special lamenting the lack of tourism. The articles in the magazine say that violence in the country should not be a deterrent for tourists. HA!

It is indeed a matter of great shame as well anguish to hear this news that even innocent foreign explorer and tourist who got nothing to do with politics became the pray of those terrorist atcs

Rest in Peace.

It is ironic that only today the Dawn editorial talks about the Missing Tourists.

Jun 23, 2013 10:37am

I offer heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and hope that the killers be brought to justice soon. These perpetrators are not human beings that treat people like cattle amid their aim to bring down Pakistan's image at any cost.

Guess who could have done it?? Guess again.. Same people who are spilling blood in other parts of the country.

It is brutal and wicked, even our best friends Chinese or not spared.we had only one place which we were proud asking people to come and witness the beauty of nature has been polluted by these acts. serious and meaningful inquiry be immediately launched. security to the rest of tourist be guaranteed as priority. let save the only place which was safe from such accidents historically. Save Pakistan.

Jun 23, 2013 10:40am

these non state actors don't want Pakistan to get rid of colonialism of USA. there was a long u-turn in the international politics since Pakistan had handed over the strategically most important Gawadar port to China and had signed the gas pipeline project with Iran. now Ziarat residency of Quaid attack, and these Chinese tourists killings are just to curtail the economic and strategic advancements of China in the region. these two projects were pricking like a toxic thorns in the eyes of US and its states. these two projects are a big turn in the history of the uni polar world. and Pakistan has got a rare chance to set the world order. Govt and people of Pakistan should come to senses, what if Iran runs away, China abdicates the Gwadar, tourists cross our country, will not we remain a satellite state of the US for more years till we get another chance (don't know when)??? all the so called intellectuals, national security experts should get their heads down to devise solid policies, and heavily mandated govt should improve the law and order conditions country wide besides the developmental projects....

It is very sad to learn about this horrific incident. The Government has to find the political will to stop the menace of terrorism by rooting it out at the madrasah level. All such madrasahs which preach hatred and intolerance must be shut down and dismantled and their administrators jailed for treason and anti Islam activities. A law to this effect must be enacted at the earliest.

I am resident of Gilgit-baltistan and my heart is in severe pain as I just read this sad news. Gilgit-baltistan which was considered to be a safe heaven for tourists and no foreigners were targeted in the past on such a large scale, except for the sectarian violence where local Shia population was targetted on Karakoram Highway( thanks to Mr. Zia ulhaq for sowing the seed of sectarian hatred in this peaceful region).

Targetting the foreighners seems to be a part of a well planned conspiracy to cut the life-line of the people of Gilgit-baltistan where the majority of the mass is dependable on tourism for their economical needs. Gilgit-baltistan has been blessed with unspoiled natural beauty for which it is known world wide. the longest glaciers outside polar regions lies here. The thickets cluster of world's highest mountains are the assets of this beautiful region and the peace loving people are a perfect math to this this natural habitat.

My request to the PM of Pakistan and the President is that mere pronouncing a few words of condemnation is not enough to compensate the this great economic and human loss, but they need to take serious measures to bring the culprits to justice, else "PAKISTAN KA KHUDA HI HAFIZ"

Jun 23, 2013 10:59am

Does this mean these people don't want the foreign visitors? If they think foreigners are not invited then they should declare to avoid this calamitous situations.

The PM and President strongly condemned the attack - what else they or our army do. GB is already getting step-motherly treatment from main land without any sort of improvement in road, education, health or infrastructure facilities. Added to this, this tendency of terrorist attacks even remove the little tourist sector.

It is a black day in the history of Gilgit-Baltistan. We strongly condemned this barbaric act on our soil. However, It is the responsibility of the government to bring the doers into the justice to give them a serious lesson so that such accident can be prevented in future.

Jun 23, 2013 12:58pm

That's right main sahib, keep condemning these acts of violence. Don't bother doing anything about it.

Jun 23, 2013 01:18pm

How come the people responsible for the attacks claim the responsibility as soon as the attack happens. Marwat conveyed it by telephone, why cant they track the call. This is utter bullshit of controlled media. The repeat of the great game. You know whats common in these nationalities: Ukraine, China, and Russia, well think about it.

I being a Pakistani feel deeply embarrassed over this gory incident. Otherwise, I do not see any future for our country.

Jun 23, 2013 01:24pm

It was rather irresponsible of those tourists to go there in the first place. What were they thinking?! And to say that we will bring them to justice is yet another over ambitious statement. This one's way down on the list of to do's for Pakistan.

Jun 23, 2013 02:02pm

Sunday Magazine special: Where are the tourists? Now you know where they are! Rest in Peace.

Jun 23, 2013 02:03pm

The locals who depend on the tourism industries were already suffering & will now suffer some more, thanks to those militants. One must ask what good will be the suspension of a bureaucrat & a police officer when the main fault lies with the policy makers of the country, they just follow orders, the orders that in this case were never there in the first place.

Jun 23, 2013 02:15pm

But, but it is apathy and not terrorism that impacts negatively on tourism according to the Sunday Magazine. the subcontinent is suffering due to this atrocious attaks on foreigners. All the good poor people and regions suffer. It is tragic that these acts are carried out in the name of religion and god.

Jun 23, 2013 02:16pm

It is tragic to see innocent people are being killed in Pakistan one reason or another reason. Every time there is some new group establish itself and TTP claim the responsibility. This thing is not going to end, now time has come to develop condenses, if these groups are will to come to table then must talk for peace and if they reject constitution and writ of Pakistan than government has to ask all political leader ship to support the will of the people, and then go against terrorist with full force and do whatever is required to finish them of once forever. if any political leadership or establishment still support terrorists, then all these elements are to be exposed to the general public, media also has to play a role to have a full debate on TV and ask direct straight questions like

Jun 23, 2013 02:23pm

Pakistan must be placed under UN administration and an international force must be put in the country and charged with conducting a cull of all islamic terrorists.

Jun 23, 2013 02:25pm

Past ten years, I have spent half of my time in Karachi Pakistan, birth place of Jinnah, creator of Pakistan, a cosmopolitan city of 18 million, most of them practicing shia or sunni sect of Islam. It is commonly commented in Dawn that " get rid of Tahreek-e-Talaban and all will be well in Pakistan". The problem is that every Pakistan Muslim has little bit of the Fundamentalism of Talaban buried in the back of his head irrespective of whatever sect he belongs to. They commonly claim that their religion is superior to all other religions and Kalma guarantees them place in heaven. Unfortunately the peaceful religion instead of being used to discipline the masses to live a peaceful, to remove corruption, destroy unethical values is itself abused and is used to create hatred toward fellow human. The religion should be confined to home and is to be treated as a bond between men and his creator. Until and unless this state is achieved the exploiters will continue to play havoc with life in Pakistan. It is a fact that most of Jamati political parties use to call Jinnah's demand for creation of Pakistan as a demand for Kafiristan. Once Pakistan came into existence, over night they become the benefactor and wanted to make Pakistan a Islamic State. These hypocrites and their political parties should be banned and Jinnah's vision of Pakistan be restored. This is the only way to save Pakistan. Is this possible? I do not believe so. Long live Jinnah.

I am deeply shocked by this massacre. When outsiders would say anything about the dangers of visiting Pakistan I always defended the northern areas.I have trekked from near the Afghan border to Baltistan,Hunza and Shimshal and always felt at home among the welcoming locals. It only takes one incident like this to unsettle inhabitants and visitors alike for years to come. Remember the killing of 4 trekkers in J&K ? 2 decades later the memory of this is still alive. My sympathy goes out to the victims and to the Pakistanis who have these mindless killers on the lose.

@Naseema Perveen Sheen: Yes, indeed, sad news. But I would have thought that more important than the impact on the economy of Pakistan should be your concern for the impact on the lives of the families of these guests of Pakistan. I do not expect any sane person to come to Pakistan -- whether they be tourists, cricketers, businessmen, or whoever. This country is rapidly turning into an international pariah, and deservedly so.

Jun 23, 2013 04:34pm

I believe the intelligence agencies in Pakistan are completely capable of finding these groups and routing them. All it is required is a co-ordinated and persistent intelligence monitoring and shock and awe attacks when the targets are confirmed. The nation has to come to the same page and authorise our armed forced to launch an all out war against all the terrorist groups . If Sri lanka could win a war against insurgents we can too.. No negotiations or soft paddling would ever work with these rouges . They must be defeated and annihilated completely.

Jun 23, 2013 04:38pm

what is funny, is the reasoning, its revenge for Waliur Rehman. Of course the Americans killed him, but the 'revenge' is taken out on Ukrainians and Chinese. This pretty much sums up the logic of these barbarians.

Sounds like they were Chinese and Ukrainian tourists.

Jun 23, 2013 05:22pm

Chaudhary Nisar Interior Minister better resign for this lapse of security. Its very shameful that Interior ministry is willing to talk to these outlaws who openly declares their identity but our ministery does not have a courage to root them out. I will request the minister to go to Srilanka and get trained on how to clean mess of terrorisim from Pakistan. If the gov. of Srilanka can clean the mess of the most terror group of Tamil tigers why not Pakistan gov. the only thing required is sincerity and patriotism not ove for ministery.

A huge disaster for adventure tourism in Pakistan where cultural tourism was already inexistant.

Jun 23, 2013 05:44pm

I am sick and tired of reading this: TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan claimed responsibility from undisclosed location. What undisclosed location? In this day and age, what location can be undisclosed? This is utter nonsense. There is clearly a foreign hand involved in all this with a well thought out plan.

Jun 23, 2013 05:41pm

So, which kind of Taliban is this now? - Slightly better than the "Bad" and little worse than the "Good" one ? When you share a wall, you can't just set neighbor's house on fire and watch it happily. It's going to bite you in you know where! Also what else can miyan Sharif do but condemn? His action in Punjab shelling out millions to militant organization speaks more than his condolence speech here! But there is a hope that some action may be followed, it's not Shia or Ahmadi that have died, there are chinese!

My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who were from far away and were in love with Pakistan and lost their lives due to the distorted vision of the very few who have brought disrepute to our religion and our nation by hijacking our opinions and beliefs and carrying out atrocities. I call to all persons who abhor the act to raise voices in condemnation of those who commit such acts and for taking measures to fight them till bitter end. Furthermore, we the Pakistanis need to be vocal in offering condolences in print media, in written forms by the mountaineering clubs, ministries associated with tourism, our embassy in Ukraine. This needs to be seen and heard by the Ukrainians and not drowned in apathy what we have otherwise developed. Also some fund needs to created to help the families of the deceased, to which all who have a possibility should contribute. Our nation and our religion have entrenched values for upholding human life and dignity and we should prove that we are humans and not closer to being imbeciles blood thirsty animals.

In addition to the Ukrainians, my heart goes out for the brotherly Chinese who lost their lives too. May they all rest in peace. This act of the very few has let the heads of all of Pakistanis bow down in sorrow and helplessness in front of nations who still try to help us out of the quagmire we are in.

It was indeed tragic news. My heart goes to the victims and their family. May God rest their souls in peace? It is a complete failure on the part of Government that so many lives were lost in this tragedy. It has been three weeks since Nawaz Sharif Government is in Power and I don

Jun 23, 2013 06:48pm

@Jayant: Do you still wonder why the foreign tourists are being raped in your country?

Jun 23, 2013 06:47pm

Condemning these kind of acts does not help. We need action and results. It is very common with our leaders to condemn these inhuman acts by terrorist and then forget about the very next day. Security should be the order of the day. What is Nawaz Sharrif doing as far the security of common citizens and visitors is conerned? Wake up brave people of great Country (Pakistan) and let Nawaz Sharrif know that he should stand behind his promises he made during election campaign. Everyday innocent people are being killed in Karachi. Every week we have strikes in Karachi. It is about time we should have Pakistan Spring and the terrorist and our inefficient and coward Government should not under estimate the strength of the people of Pakistan. God Bless Pakistan.

Jun 23, 2013 06:58pm

This is really a sad incident which would further tarnish Pakistan's name. However, I fail to understand why the country's 5 million strong army has failed to eliminate about ten thousand TTP militants who have so far killed 45000 innocent civilians including military personnel. The new govt cannot be complacent any further and should ask the military to mount a decisive operation against TTP on the same lines as Sri lankan did against LTTE and bring peace in Pakistan.

Jun 23, 2013 07:53pm

It's a sad incident and should not have happened but what does this call for that Political leaders of Pakistan should understand that terrorism can't be dealt with dual ideologies i.e. a good terrorism which helps their country (to be understood ) and another the bad one which terrifies their own citizens. Eventually both are same terrorism has no face no religions and has to be dealt in complete honesty... This should be an eye opener to them

Blow up the entire villages where these animals lives. feeds. and nurture. Until unless they will not stop. Can not even find the Spokesman from undisclosed location.

They should be not called Taliban they should be called Jahillan. They only bring shame and disgrace to Pakistan. A few statements from politicans and life goes on in Pakistan as if nothing happened. This Monster will not go away by itself. People of Pakistan need to unite and speak up against these attrocities.

Jun 23, 2013 08:18pm

Looks like Islamic terrorists have imposed No Go zones for foreigners. Something you see in Black ghettos of UK and US. There is socioeconomic parallel here. There are perceived injustice, sense of entitlement, expectations of comfortable living standards regardless of efforts and merit so on and so forth. May be brutal and rigorous law and order is a solution. You cannot talk to these people. It will not work. Shoot and then ask questions....I say.

Jun 23, 2013 08:19pm

This is not only a brutal action and an example of security failure but is extremely embarrassing for all Pakistanis, living anywhere in the world. No compromise on this could be justified.

It is so sad and depressing indeed, that our brethren Chinese have been killed on this very soil of Pakistan. Alas! where the peace of our beloved land has gone! A deep sigh comes from within my heart, If there were a savior for our Pak land, who would pull out the country from the dismay of terrorism. The Gilgit-Baltistan holds some of the highest mountainous peaks of the world. They are one of the most spectacular tourism places of the world. Tourism a pillar of our already fragile economy have been shaken by this heinous act of killing foreign tourist. It will not only embitter the interstate relations with China as well as Ukraine, but also the very International image of Pakistan will be tarnished. Its also an embarrassing situation for the newly elected government, which remained impotent to protect the foreign mountaineers. The responsibility lies on the shoulders of the government to establish as well as review its security policy, in order to meet the security needs of the restive Pakistan. I wish I Pray , MAY GOD BLESS OUR LAND OF PURE WITH COUNTLESS BLESSINGS! AMEEN

What a shame...what is Pakistani military doing since police is so incapable of handling any matters in Pakistan...Pakistani police need training as to how to protect the internal attacks of this caliber...Pakistan's tourist industry is down and now it will totally disappear! What is tourist minister doing? Would he have a job, Mr. Nawaz Sharif????? They have to kill all those thugs who come in disguise as religious parties and leaders and do not obey the law of the land....they must be punished severely by the government and wiped out, but they know Pakistan's govt. is weak and not capable so they are taking advantage! Mr. Sharif are you listening?? You need to get tough and mean with them! and Mr. Kiayani are you sleep with your military after seeing what damages are done in Karachi and other provinces of Pakistan????

Jun 23, 2013 10:29pm

You still want to negotiate with these savages? These terrorists only understand force and must be eliminated for the over all good of the nation. Our deepest sympathy for this senseless loss of unarmed, precious and innocent life. Where are the voices against this atrocity from those who are always protesting drone attacks? Both are equally bad, but at least one should be consistent in protesting against both atrocities.

faiza g.r. bhatt
Jun 23, 2013 10:32pm

just look at the irony. US kills TTP rep who supports peace talks with Pakistan and it never kills any anti-Pakistani TTP member. TTP then revenges drone attack on helpless Pakistanis and foreign visitors and never does anything to the perpetrators of drone attacks. clearly TTP has foreign agenda. how can Ehsanullah Ehsan justify the attack on foreign visitors, who are actually average Pakistani's friends, and still be hoping that his TTP and other allied factions have any sympathy from Pakistanis?

Go Imran go talk to them

Jun 23, 2013 10:49pm

This is an isolated incident and it is very, very sad. There are thousands of mountain visitors worldwide who could vouch for the great trips they have had in these beautiful Pakistani regions. It should not mean that the area is forever "dangerous" or that it has been "taken over" by extremists. Better security checkpoints and permit procedures (for environmental controls) should be in place. The only good that may come out of this is that mountain region tourism may finally get the attention it needs.

@msalvi: Now even Musharraf cannot do any special thing.Incumbent regime can do every thing if it likes.I suggest the militants should not be pampered too much. They should be wiped off at any cost. Otherwise they will wipe off Pakistan.

Jun 23, 2013 11:06pm

Who advised them to visit Pakistan ?

Jun 23, 2013 11:12pm

People of Diamer should seriously take it final wake up call.

It is not easy for any non-local to come or mingle with demographic settings of Gilgit-Baltistan. I bet, any non-local can be tracked within hours. It means these militants are regularly receiving local shelter. Earlier, Kohistan and Chilas carnage of passengers were highly denied by people of Diamer and opposed any military operation.

Now, business will not stay the same.

Other important thing, is if someone claims, these non-local militants of TTP came to base camp.....Ehsanullah and their leaders or their so-called coward fighters can't make it base camp...its a journey of at least a day for locally trained person/ climber to reach rug/ touch base camp area.....if so, then its again locals, who have joined banned outfits and carrying out these addition, they can't escape easily from base needs quick mobility and knowhow of area.....

If this practice continues, people of real G-B might say a farewell to all those , who wish to align with Kohistan/ FATA.....

Jun 23, 2013 11:14pm

America operates the drone attacks and in retaliation Chinese and Ukrainians are killed by the militants. These nations have no hand in drone strikes and have rather condemned them. What is then the justification for targetting these innocent tourists.Actually the terrorists are targetting anyone they can just to terrorise and frighten the government and people so that they surrender to the terrorists' demands. If such happens it will be a tragedy.

Jun 23, 2013 11:27pm

@Agha Ata:

An absolute fact. I noticed that goverment suspended Chief Secretary and IG, and in another news report I noticed, govenment wants to help militant drone victims. And killers are roaming free. What a bizzare solution.

One is aware that islamic nutjobs are devoid of intellect, but can someone kindly explain how killing Ukrainians, Russians and Chinese is going to stop drone attacks.

Jun 23, 2013 11:54pm

Islam has failed in Pakistan, most Pakistanis are corrupt, dishonest, violent and have all other negative human flaws. Islam is suppose to eliminate or reduce the negative flaws in humans, help them civilized and be productive. If Pakistanis want to save the remaining country and be part of civilized global world, eliminate all the religious zealots.

Enough of the "pur josh muzammat" and "report talab". That means nothing. The Pakistani Government MUST get cracking at these people who have no regard for humanity. These barbarians have been killing Pakistanis for a long time and have been challenging the state for longer. The state MUST reach a decision if it intends to allow the killing to go on or will they take action against these people. There is NO room for negotiation with these people in my opinion.

Jun 24, 2013 12:42am

Being a Pakistani I think only solution is give a one week warning to the residents to clear the area and then use Neutron Bombs to clean the area for foreve. These people will not understand the language of peace.

Nawaz, Nisar, and party high time to use NEUTRON BOMB to kill these killers of innocent people.

Jun 24, 2013 12:46am

This is an enemy of Pakistan that does not distinguish between the friend or the foe of Pakistan.

Jun 24, 2013 01:25am

And there goes the lone opportunity into dark hole for foreign tourist to visit Pakistan. I just wonder why Army wouldnt carry out operations in Waziristan and Karachi just like they did in Swat. Ok I am Pukhtoon and have many friends from Swat, believe me not one of them actually opposed army operation they had in Swat. Yes there was some collateral damage which could have been prevented to some extant but the result is effective (according to my friends from Swat). I think drone attacks are useless and creates more hatred that changes into rage.

Jun 24, 2013 01:27am

I can understand why we encourage foreign tourists but it is counter productive till we have complete peace in the country. Incidents like this will frighten away foreign investors too, which will do far greater harm that the good that promotion of tourism could ever do.

Pakistan must go in to hibernation and long period of deep introspection for next few decades. Stop talking about siyasat, world politics, religion etc. Just turn all attention and energy inwards to revive the society from within. keep your head down and work hard.more than working hard, work with sincerity and honesty. there are major issues like corrupt politics, almost absent economy, education, hunger, water, health, terrorism, religious fundamentalism, regionalism, international intervention. All intelligentsia, educated class must step up and take reigns of the country in your own hands. Guys stop even thinking about outside world for next few decades. first thing first. get your priorities right. Plz my bros n sisters from pak, we indians are NOT your enemies. we love you folks. Lets show our past generation that what they could not achieve, we can. lets get over this madness of hatred and suspicion. We can be best of friends, all weather friends. more than friends we can be brothers as we are in reality. Our best wishes are with pakistan and its future. Ask for help if you need any. accepting mistakes doesn't make you small, it makes you strong. Time to build a prosperous, happy and peaceful Pakistan. Come on folks, lets just do it.

@Mukesh: Indian will get tourist visa to Swat or even know what Swat is, a made up story on your part. Sad to see Indians take such pleasure in the pain of Pakistanis.

Jun 24, 2013 05:49am

Dear God, Please bless the departed souls rest and peace.

" TTP is scum on the face of earth" What these poor people have done to you guys? Only thing, they were looking the natural beauty. I offered my heartiest condolence to the families. Please spare my country from your evil eyes.

God knows, what these agencies are doing? I would suggest you guys should think about this mence otherwise go home, put dupatta on your head, wear bangles and doing house chores. You cannot do your duties.

@Anoop: It tells me that Indians take great pleasure in the pain of Pakistanis.

Jun 24, 2013 06:01am

@acer: You live in a dream world full of conspiracies against Pakistan with foreign hand in all things bad. Even if Taliban themselves step forward to a Pakistani source, it still is a conspiracy according to you; How to stop these killing?

Jun 24, 2013 06:18am

@Jamal: Why not send Nawas Sharif?

Jun 24, 2013 06:45am

@Shrirang, Navi Mumbai: Tell your government to stop supporting them financially. They are definitely not getting paid from Pakistani people.

Jun 24, 2013 07:02am

If CIA can find these Jahilans and send drone, why our intelligence is so incapable and unable to eliminate the head of this evil. They are not only hurting Pakistan but they are hurting the name of islam.

Jun 24, 2013 07:15am

Media should stop giving too much coverage to the terrorists.

Jun 24, 2013 07:40am

Killing each other and a few outsiders is the way of life here.

Strangely - most of the killing is of each other, unlike any other type of culture. Perhaps this is a case of 'Population control'

Jun 24, 2013 10:09am

The only tourizm left in Pakistan was Adventure tourizm and even this has been destroyed. The security agencies are fully to blame as they were aware of such a threat in the past. Action if taken at this point is too late. The only way to improve tourism is to uproot the terrorist camps from this area. Mere condolence is not enough Even then, tourism may take decades before the situation normalises.

*> Our nation and our religion have entrenched values for upholding human

life and dignity*

El Cid
Jun 24, 2013 11:57am

I am sure they have a valid reason for killing the innocents.

Reason goes out the door when you put a bullet in their child's head and a Drone blows up their home.

Try to find out what is being done to will find enough reason in unmarked little rows of shallow graves and blown up homes. Dead broken Paki don't care to see the reason, research the rest of the 'story'. It is all there.

Go, see the truth. I dare you...

Jun 24, 2013 12:04pm

This is appalling! Pakistan needs to believe in itself to be able eradicate terrorism. It should forget about world opinion, human rights and other niceties and go after the terrorist hammer & tongs. If Sri Lanka can get rid of LTTF, Pakistan can get rid of its terrorists too. I believe Pakistan with its huge army has the muscle to do it, but does it have the will and the stomach?

Jun 24, 2013 12:15pm

Jun 24, 2013 12:57pm

@Girish: Comparison to "black ghettos" is ridiculous. if we think "injustice, sense of entitlement, expectations of comfortable living standards regardless of efforts and merit" are the motivating factors of these jihadis, we are fooling ourselves. And in my opinion, your understanding of the socio-economic reasons for the existence of ghettos in the US and parts of Europe is also overly simplistic.

Jun 24, 2013 01:02pm

@Waqas Shaikh: Rapists in India are criminals being chased by the law. They are not strategic assets of some shady branch of the Indian government.

Looks like Islamic terrorists have imposed No Go zones for foreigners. Something you see in Black ghettos of UK and US

Most probably Hindu extremists from the slum ghettos of Bharat. US ghettos have the standard of Bharat palaces.

Jun 24, 2013 01:48pm

@Tamil selvan: Dear, Pakistan never supported these culprits, not even at the soils other than pakistan. This is part of conspiracies being hatched against Pakistan , in order to destroy her. These are "Foreign hands" behind support of such heinous acts on Pak soil. We are peace loving nation, furthermore, If you had ever come across Muslims' sacred book " The Holy Quran" you would have known that "Islam teaches Peace, Its essence is " Don't even kill those who don't point arms at you, and those who surrender, and women, children and the old one- Never immolate crops, trees, don't kill animals of the enemy, and never plunder the properties of whom over you achieve victory, during war". How can the followers of such a peaceful religion kill the innocent men!!!! think over it!!

Jun 24, 2013 01:53pm

This is not fair. When will such attacks stop? Why this happens only in Pakistan?

Jun 24, 2013 02:22pm

Jun 24, 2013 03:10pm

Govt! Please woke up, save the country now , put the other issues aside and first u all need to eradicate these things

Jun 24, 2013 03:18pm

Felt really bad about the whole episode. Could have been prevented with some thoughtful security. But the motive is quite clear. There is huge Chinese presence in Gilgit Baltistan with lot of development projects going on with the help of Chinese brethren, that includes the expansion of Karakorum highway, tunnels, roads, khunjerab pass, few dams and energy projects. They(the enemy) want to put a damper on the China-Pakistan relationship, and to undermine the Adventure tourism industry in the country. Ironically with all security threats a million tourist visited Pakistan last year. I hope the adventure tourist like mountaineers will keep visiting the Karakorums, Himalayas and The Hindukush as no other country in the world provide such an opportunity, goes without saying the adventure tourist are brave people, lot of mountaineers lost their lives while climbing the mountains, but the passion remains there. They will keep coming back.

Jun 24, 2013 03:33pm

@Syed: I don't know if you're an Indian who hates Pakistan or a pessimistic person who hates your country but seriously, Pakistan has one of the most scenic places on earth (the Himalayas, Hindukusk/Karakoram ranges) , why on earth would you NOT want foreigners to come as tourists to Pak?

We've already had a decade of demonisation from the Western media, claiming that Pakistan is responsible for creating the Taliban, where in fact it was the CIA.

Jun 24, 2013 03:34pm

This is so sad and stupid. These militants are such cowards and idiots, why do they blame the "international community." - How can you hold the Chinese, Russians and Ukranians responsible? If it were American mountaineers then okay, it would make sense, although not justified.

The one's responsible is the American government and its' military but they have to go about killing Chinese?

All this has done is brought disappointment amongst tourists who wish to visit Pakistan. This incident will further give the impression that Pakistan is a wild cowboy country where no sane person should dare visit.

Thank you Mr Taliban, I hope the Pak army finds and shoot's your ass one of these days.

Jun 24, 2013 03:42pm

@Waqas Shaikh: In short India is a dangerous place for foreigners as per your calculations but why is it that percentage of tourists is increasing at the rate of 10 % in India. Please shun this Pakistani habit of presenting India in every xyz incidents. Nobody listens to you. You better try to introspect and don't take pride on these terrorists when they try to harm India. Now you better congratulate Sheikh Rasheed MNA who alleged India's hand on this incident.

I can understand Pakistani people's anger towards this brutal killing by the terrorist. But the sad part is when these type of incident takes place in India administered Kashmir, then these terrorist become freedom fighters for most of the Pakistani people and they even sympathized with those freedom fighter.. People of Pakistan should understand that there in no good terrorist or bad terrorist. Terrorist is terrorist irrespective of his place and reason of crime.

Jun 24, 2013 11:58pm

@hussain: My government not able to deal with maosit, naxalist, bodo's and many other organizations.. They runs parallel government, kills innocent peoples like talibanis. Are they not considered as terrorist? Border security is essential but My government need to take strong action against those internal organizations which are acting like terrorist. I feel sorry for those peoples who died in that incident. I also feel sorry for tourism industry in that region. Many people probably lost their jobs after that incident. Few peoples (terrorist) are ruining the image of your country. Please take strict action against terrorism. I never relate terrorism with Islam or Pakistan. (It is general perception in India. There are many reasons such as Bollywood films are responsible for these wrong perceptions. I think our society need to change these perceptions.) I studied with many Pakistani brothers also worked under Pakistani owner in his shop (in London). Those peoples were also fed up with all these activities. Strong political will and strong action against those organizations can be helpful in eliminating terrorism. (I feel ashamed, my country also not tackle these issue seriously)

@Neil: The acts are despicable but to say they happen only in Pakistan is totally wrong. If you take of your blinders you will see they happen in all countries. The only difference is that when a muslim does such a thing he is labelled a terrorist. If a person of any other religion does it, he is labelled a criminal even if he goes to a school and shoots 26 children or goes into a cinema and starts firing automatics or takes a vantage position and starts shooting at university students.

This mindset that we can hate certain groups must be eradicated. This is how Babris, ahmedabads, and talibans are made. Love all. All. It's all or nothing, Pakistan.
