KARACHI, May 13: Angry residents of Godhra Colony on Tuesday attacked the city government’s water and sanitation department’s New Karachi office and put the office furniture on fire.

Eye-witnesses told Dawn that residents of New Karachi’s Sector 11-G (Godhra), mostly women, first staged a demonstration near the office to voice their anger over persisting water shortage and later ransacked the office.

The enraged protesters were, however, dispersed following the rangers and Town Police Officer reached the site of the incident.

It was the third violent incident in the last 25 days in the city.

CONTAMINATED: Residents of over dozen of houses in North Nazimabad’s Block ‘H’ have been receiving contaminated water for the last couple of days.

According to the residents of the affected locality, a number of houses, starting from House No C-26, were getting water, mixed with sewage for the last two days, yet the concerned officials of the W&S department have not yet removed the fault.
