KARACHI, May 11: Two youths were shot dead and two others wounded in an armed clash at a shop in the Pak Colony police limits on Sunday.

Police said some youths came on motorcycles to a video-game shop in Haji Parial Goth, Purana Golimar, where they began to argue with a rival group over some matter.

The arguments turned violent and they started firing at each other. As a result Irfan, 23, and Zakir, 24, were killed, and Mehroz, 20, and Shafquat, 28, were wounded and taken to a hospital.

A senior police official said both the groups consisted of criminals; Mehroz was recently bailed out in a robbery case.

The incident spread a wave of tension in the area where the shops remained closed.

ACCIDENT: A man died in a road accident on Superhighway early Sunday morning.

Police said that the man was crossing the road when an unknown speeding vehicle knocked him down. He died on the spot and the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the postmortem examination. The identity of the deceased could not be established.

ELECTROCUTED: A fifteen-year-old boy died of electrocution in Malir on Sunday.

Police said that Fuzail Mohammad, resident of Gulistan-i-Johar, was repairing a water-pumping motor in a house in Bilal Goth, when he suffered an electric jolt and fell unconscious. He was taken to the Jinnah PMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

DROWN: Two picnickers were drowned on Sunday and four others were rescued by lifeguards.

Edhi sources said that a family from old Lyari went on picnic to the Gadani beach where six of them were swept away by the violent currents of the rough sea. The lifeguards immediately started a rescue operation and managed to rescue four girls. They recovered one body, while the other remains missing.

SHOT DEAD: Police sot dead an alleged bandit and arrested his ‘accomplice’ in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday night.

Police said two policemen signalled two youths riding a motorcycle to stop, but they tried to speed away. The policemen chased them.

Police claimed the youths opened fired at the policemen who returned the fire killing one of the youths on the spot. The other youth was arrested and remained unhurt, police said.

The dead was identified as Irfan and the one arrested is Khurram. Police also claimed to have recovered two TT pistols from them.
