KARACHI: If the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) seeks consensus while electing the prime minister, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) may reciprocate by going for a unanimous vote in the National Assembly.

This was stated by PPP’s senior leader Khurshid Shah on Monday while talking to Dawn.com.

PPP has put forward Shah’s name as opposition leader for the incoming National Assembly.

"Sitting in the opposition is nothing new for us," the PPP leader said.

Shah had said that the May 11 elections have placed the country in a strange position, given that each province has a separate mandate.

"Looking at the mandate received by each province has me worried," Shah said.

”The situation is reminiscent of the scenario faced by the country after the 1970 elections,” he commented while sharing his fears.

Meanwhile, former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah's name has been put forward to continue his role as CM in the Sindh government.

Other decisions made by the PPP include, Sikander Mendhro as speaker Sindh Assembly and Sehla Raza as deputy speaker for the provincial assembly.

Qaim Ali Shah said that his government's priorities will be to tackle the law and order situation in Karachi.

He further said that the mandate received from the people of Sindh will be reciprocated with record development in the province.
