LAHORE, May 24: A youth died after falling off the 5th floor of Mayo Hospital on Friday afternoon.

It’s said that 20-year old Shahzad, a resident of Shahdara, was accompanying his two friends to the hospital for an eye checkup. Shahzad was a factory worker and brother of three sisters.

Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervez told Dawn that mystery surrounded the incident and the police had taken Shahzad’s friends into custody.

He said the police suspected that Shahzad’s friends had a role in the incident.

He said the incident had been investigated at the hospital level and lift operator Hafeez Mustafa and gatekeeper Waris Barkat had been suspended from service for negligence.

A three-member committee has been formed to look into the incident, he said, adding that Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Ashiq would head the committee, which had admin officials Mehboob Ali and Muhammad Aslam as members.

cylinder blast: Three people suffered multiple burns when an LPG cylinder exploded at a shop in Ichhra on Friday.

Three employees were busy at work at the LPG decanting shop at Shama Chowk when the cylinder exploded with a bang. Employees later identified as Qasim, Azeem and Munir suffered multiple injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital where their condition was said to be stable. One of the injured, however, became disabled due to injuries to his leg, a Rescue 1122 official said.

A portion of the shop was damaged due to the blast.

suicide: A man committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan of his house in Shahdara on Friday.

Fakhar Abbas of Begumkot had contracted second marriage with Alia Bibi. He kept her in a house where his first wife, Afia, was also living.

The police said shortly after second marriage his both wives developed differences over petty family issues. Fakhar tired to mediate but to no avail. Dejected, he committed suicide.
