ISLAMABAD, May 10: Mother’s Day is being celebrated throughout the world on May 11 to pay tributes to the unconditional love of mothers towards their children.
The earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honour of Rhea, the Mother of Gods.
During the 1600’s, England celebrated a day called “Mothering Sunday” celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading upto Easter).
On this day, the servants of the riches had an off from their work and they were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers. A special cake, called the mothering cake was often brought to add a festive touch to the eve.
Lately, it was successful by 1911 that Mother’s Day was celebrated in almost every state of the world.
Pakistan, with a strong family system, has deep roots for mother’s respect and affiliation. However, the day raises a question about the country’s mothers, suffering with highest mortality rate in the region during child delivery.—APP
