PESHAWAR, May 22: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Khyber Agency workers on Wednesday observed a token hunger strike outside Peshawar High Court against the Election Commission of Pakistan and political administration for failure to facilitate IDPs to exercise their right to vote on May 11.

The protesters had displayed placards and banners inscribed with slogans showing their dissatisfaction over the election process in the tribal region.

They also hoisted black flags and shouted slogans demanding of the ECP to provide copies of original electoral lists to all candidates before re-election on remaining polling stations of the NA-46 constituency.

The protesters were led by PTI Khyber Agency organiser Haji Iqbal Afridi, who is also a candidate for NA-46. He said of the total 14,500 registered voters in the Jalozai IDP camp, only 500 polled their votes while the names of the rest of the voters were missing from the electoral lists.

Meanwhile, tribal students studying in different educational institutions here alleged that influential candidates were using all available resources and money to ensure their success during re-polling on 21 polling stations of the NA-46 constituency in Khyber Agency, to be held on May 25.

They urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of violation of its code of ethics.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Khyber Students Union president Amil Khan Afridi said the ECP should disqualify the violators of election rules.
