KARACHI, May 20: Reigning champions Amar Cables will meet Karachi Moin in the final of the 15th National Seniors Cup after clinching the Northern Zone regional title by defeating Askari Greens in Lahore on Sunday.
Askari Greens, batting first, totalled 217-8 in their 30 overs at the LCCA Ground with Sharifullah (70) and Maqsood Aslam (56) the prominent run-getters.
Ahmed Shahab (2-34), Rauf Wain (2-42) and Tariq Rasheed (2-53) shared the bowling honours for Amar Cables.
In their response to the chase, Amar Cables got their target in the 29th over by reaching 218-4. the highlight being Ahmed Shahab’s superb knock of 87. Ameer Akbar contributed and undefeated 61.
The most successful bowler for Askari Greens was Mansoob Elahi who grabbed two wickets for 39 runs.
Ahmed Shahab was declared Man-of-the-Match for his all-round contributions. Former Pakistan captain Intikhab Alam and ex-Test paceman Farooq Hameed, who was the chief guest, gave way the prizes. Amar Cables collected the winners’ cash award of 150,000 along with the trophy and Askari Greens received Rs75,000 and the runners-up trophy.
The final will be played under floodlights at the DHA Sports Club here on Saturday, starting at 5.45pm, according to an announcement made by Pakistan Veteran Cricket Association (PVCA) chairman Fawad Ijaz Khan.
Karachi Moin, who defeated Karachi Omar in the Southern Zone regional final, will be skippered by Asim Jah, while Amar Ilyas Butt will be leading Amar Cables.
