EDINBURGH, May 19: Pakistan won their two-match One-day International series against Scotland 1-0 after the second game was washed out on Sunday due to a waterlogged playing surface here at the Grange Cricket Club Ground.
The match was due to start at 0945GMT but heavy rain in the Scottish capital in the preceding 24 hours had left the outfield sodden.
Match officials Mark Hawthorn and Ian Ramage ordered five pitch inspections, while Grange groundstaff was given until almost 1400GMT to address the problem but it was eventually decided the pitch was in no condition for play and the game was promptly called off after the players had taken an early lunch.
“It’s really disappointing. We hung about for quite a while today hoping to get even a T20 match in but it wasn’t to be,” Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer said.
Pakistan, who won the first match on Friday by 96 runs, were using the Scottish double header and another two matches against Ireland in Dublin next week as preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins in England and Wales from June 6.—Agencies
