PESHAWAR, May 17: Pakistan People’s Party, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, president Anwar Saifullah Khan has suggested intra-party elections and giving priority to youth on key positions in order to organise the party at grassroots level across the province.

He was speaking at an important meeting of the party at his residence here on Friday. Mr Saifullah said that the only solution to the existing problems was intra-party elections on the pattern of PTI so that the youth could be given a chance to lead and organise the party at grassroots level in the province.

“If intra-party elections are held the party will get rid of elements hatching conspiracies for their own vested interests,” the provincial president said and added that party offices should be given through elections.

The meeting was attended by provincial, divisional and district level office-bearers. Prominent among the participants were Zulfiqar Afghani, Gohar Inqilabi, Akbar Khan, Mehmood Zeb, Ayub Shah, Ahmed Fahim, Kiramatullah Chagharmatti, Misbah Khan, Saeed Ahmed Khan, Danyal Khan, Shazia Aurangzeb, Nighat Orakzai, Rubeena Khalid, Shazia Tahmas, Begum Shehzada Suleman, Saleem Khan and Abdul Samad Toru.

However, provincial general secretary Mohammad Humayun Khan, former provincial president Zahir Ali Shah, Najamuddin Khan, Abdul Akbar Khan and some other key leaders did not attend the meeting.

Mr Saifullah said that some people of the party had held a meeting a couple of days ago, which was illegal and in violation of the party discipline because he was still the provincial president and no one else had the authority to convene party meetings.

“I have sent my resignation to party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, but he has not yet accepted it and as such I am still the provincial president,” he made it clear and added that those who attempted to violate the discipline would have to face action.

He said that within a couple of days he would go abroad for a few days and during his absence provincial senior vice-president Azam Afridi would look after the party affairs.
