PESHAWAR/MINGORA, May 16: Unidentified gunmen on Thursday killed the driver of a Nato trailer and injusred his helper on Ring Road here in limits of Peshtakhara police station.Injured Akbar Ali told local police that he couldn’t identify attackers.

“We had just returned from Afghanistan on a US vehicle and were on the way to Haji Camp that unidentified gunmen opened fire on us on Ring Road,” he said.

The helper said driver Basharat Ali, of Faisalabad, suffered bullet injures and died before reaching Lady Reading Hospital.

He said gunshots also damaged the trailer.

Police said they had registered a case against unidentified attackers and began investigation.

PEACE COMMITTEE MEMBER, GUARD KILLED: Member of Damghar peace committee and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Shah Dawran and his guard were gunned down by unidentified people in Mingora Bazaar.

Police said Mr Dawran and his guard, Amanullah of special police force, were bound for home in Damghar from Mingora in a car and when they reached Green Chowk, armed men opened fire on them killing the two on the spot.

Police registered a case against unidentified attackers and began investigation.

However, no group claimed responsibility for the attack until night.

Last year, Dawran’s nephew and leading hotelier Afzal Khan was also shot dead when he was going to Mingora from his hometown.
