Aitzaz resigns from Senate

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday resigned from his seat in the Senate, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, Ahsan said the Election Commission of Pakistan should rise from its slumber, adding that the results of constituencies which recorded 150 per cent voter turnout should be re-assessed and their results be reviewed.

Ahsan was elected Senator in the 2012 election of the Parliament’s Upper House. His wife, Bushra Aitzaz, who had contested from Lahore’s NA-124 in the May 11 polls, lost against Rohail Asghar, a candidate from Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz.

The PPP leader's resignation is the second to come from within the PPP's ranks. Earlier today, Manzoor Wattoo resigned from his position of the party’s central Punjab president days after PPP suffered a defeat in Punjab in the May 11 elections.

Altaf Hussain, where Altaf's contribution to the Mohajirs of Karachi is undeniable. His post success tactics and eccentric comments are damaging and uncalled for. He should apologize to Pakistan and specially the Mohajirs. His threat of a "separation" and building a separate "home" is absolutely anti Pakistan. He should be punished for inciting separatist sentiments and violence. Shame on Altaf for bringing shame to the Mohajirs.

Asking for brand new nationwide election is unrealistic. Most elections even in developed countries are not 100% clean. There is always some shenanigan that takes place in every election. The ECP should investigate the worst ones and take severe action with jail time and huge financial penalties to candidates and parties. The elections will become cleaner but never 100% untainted.

Chief Election Commissioner has proved to be most ineffective person. When there are reports of more than 100% voting how can he ignore and declare results. Who is responsible for rigging? If he considered himself not capable of handling the job he must have refused to accept it.

It seems no fair and transparent elections are held. EC's creditability is on stake. To get out clean EC should cancel the entire National election and hold new elections under the supervision of military. It is costly but will be a lesson learnt.

Aitezaz Ahsan, is one the most noble person of the Lawer' movement. He has crafted wonderful leadership to the laweyers and turned the movement into success, he has involved all the parties to serve this cause but his own PPPP have resisited and he has gone against his own party and served the great cause, even after that he has not left his party. These are some personalities to whome we ae proud of, and we always feel proud associating ourselves with them. God bless him
