KARACHI, May 13: Trade and industry leaders have expressed the hope that the incoming Pakistan Muslim League (N) government would make efforts for revival of economy soon after its formation.

With a thumping mandate, Nawaz Sharif is well-placed to overcome energy crisis by taking bold decisions to assert the country’s economic sovereignty, they said.

FPCCI president Zubair Ahmed Malik reposed confidence in Nawaz Sharif’s team of economic experts which he believed can tackle economic challenges effectively.

S M Muneer, former president of FPCCI, said that a government with full mandate would be able to overcome burning issues of electricity and gas crisis, dwindling foreign exchange reserves, high cost of doing business, healthcare facilities and education in all provinces of the country.

Tariq Saeed, also a former president of FPCCI, hoped that the PML (N) government would give priority to economy and carve an effective economic policy to put the country back to track.

He said that Nawaz Sharif was more receptive than others to the issues of the business community.

Zafar Iqbal, president, Small and Medium Enterprises Alliance (Smea), said that for overcoming unemployment the incoming government of Nawaz Sharif would have to do extra work for promotion of small and medium enterprises.

He said the rising violence in society and terrorism could not alone be tackled by force but by providing jobs to millions of unemployed youth across the country.

Therefore, he said, by developing SME clusters across the country the government could create jobs in shortest possible time and with little finance.

Jawed Ali Ghori, chairman, REAP, hoped that Nawaz Sharif would frame business-friendly policies for the larger benefit of the country.

The incoming government, he said, should carefully fix its priorities if it wants to achieve a sustainable economic growth.

He further said that infrastructure needs to be given due importance but the resolution of gas and energy crisis is urgent because it is crippling industries across the country.

Jawed Ghori said that the business community is optimistic that PML (N) leadership would ensure peace and development in Karachi, the economic hub of the country.

However, chairman Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), Zubair Chhaya, said that all parties across the political divide should work in harmony to achieve growth.
