ATTOCK, May 12: The Pindigheb police here registered separate cases against three political activists on the charge of displaying arms and opening fire during the May-11 elections.

A police constable was also suspended on the complaint of a polling agent, it has been learnt.

Police sources said Nasir Ali, the gunman of a local political leader, was arrested after he arrived at the polling station set up at the government high school No 3, Pindigheb, carrying a Kalashnikov. The police registered a case against him for violating the ban on the display of arms under section 144.

The same police also registered a case against two political activists on the charge of resorting to firing into the air at the election camp of an opponent party in the Nulhad village.

Moreover, the district police officer (DPO) suspended Mohammad Suhail, a constable, on the complaint of a polling agent that he had interfered in the polling process at a polling station in Mirza village, Saddar.

Meanwhile, DPO Abdul Qadir Qamar said except a few petty incidents the elections remained peaceful.

He said the police with the assistance of the army and other law enforcement agencies had taken effective measures to ensure peaceful elections. During the polling and after, special patrolling continued around all the 789 polling stations till the dispatch of the election material and staff.
