GUJRANWALA, May 8: Judicial magistrates are being delegated executive powers to check wheat procurement centres and monitor the supply of gunny bags process for resolving farmers’ complaints against the Food department, it is learnt on Thursday.

The source said the government had received complaints from farmers that they were not being supplied gunny bags in required number by the Food department. Besides, they alleged that commission agents and flour mills were purchasing their wheat at less than the official price of Rs300 per 40kg.

At this, the Punjab government had decided that special judicial magistrates would be inducted to monitor the wheat procurement process in the province, he said.

The Punjab government has already enhanced the wheat procurement target, and for this purpose the Food ministry has been directed to arrange more godowns throughout the province.

CANCELLED: The district government on Thursday cancelled an agreement of a security company for defective security arrangements at the local general bus stand.

The district government also ordered an inquiry against the security agency owner for not clearing dues of security guards and inducted Regional Transport Authority secretary Hamidullah as inquiry officer.

The district administration had awarded a contract to Jawad Ghani, owner of private security agency, for the security of the GBS but he deployed only four security guards in two shifts. The district administration directed him to increase the number of guards besides revamping the security arrangements there. But he could not do so despite repeated notices.
