TOBA TEK SINGH, May 5: Some present and former parliamentarians are reportedly making efforts to form a group of district council members to table a no-confidence motion against the district Nazim if the government does not impose a ban on such motions against district Nazims.

A few days ago, a meeting was held at the residence of former MPA and PML-Q leader Sardar Masood Khan Gadhi at Chak 184-GB near Rajana. Among those present on the occasion were Kamalia MNA Riaz Fatyana, Gojra MNA Chaudhry Amjad Ali Warraich, Punjab Forest and Fisheries Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman, PML-N central leader and former federal minister Mian Asadur Rehman and various union council Nazims.

A source said that the meeting had decided to grow contacts with other politicians in the district to make a success to the proposed no-confidence motion.

However, a source close to district Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq claimed that the attempt of the defeated group had no genuine support of Nazims of union councils. He said Chaudhry Ashfaq had obliged all his opponent district council members by sanctioning their proposed uplift schemes during the last two years. Therefore, he said even those who had voted for defeated district Nazim candidate Chaudhry Amjad Ali Warraich, now MNA, were openly supporting Chaudhry Ashfaq.

He said that all parliamentarians were not the opponents of Chaudhry Ashfaq. He said the district Nazim’s nephew Mian Farhan Latif was MNA from Toba Tek Singh while his two group leaders Brig Javed Akram (retired) and Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Shaukat were MPAs from Rajana and Chuttiana, respectively, who would extend their full support to him.

Even a PML-L MPA from Gojra Chaudhry Azhar Nadeem Gujjar and PML-N central leader Hamza were also the supporters of Chaudhry Ashfaq and if the motion was brought after the lifting of ban, it would be foiled, the source claimed.

It may be mentioned that if Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman is really a supporter of this proposed motion there will be a little chance of its failure because he is the cousin of Tariq Aziz, principal secretary to president Pervez Musharraf. Similarly, the Punjab chief minister may also support such a move.
