ISLAMABAD, May 4: The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) student who attempted suicide after killing his fiancee (a fellow student) on the campus last Tuesday died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday afternoon, the hospital authorities confirmed.

Police investigation suggested that Ali Rizwan, a student of Economic Department, had been insisting on solemnizing the marriage within one month after realising that his fiancee, Amina Gillani, was avoiding him, and her parents, too, wanted to break their engagement.

On the day the incident took place, he was trying to convince her, but, on getting refusal, lost his temper and shot her dead, before shooting himself in the head.

He was shifted to Pims where he remained in coma till Sunday. Neuro surgeon had declared that his brain was dead, but the doctors were giving him artificial respiration on his mother’s insistence.

Whenever, the doctor’s tried to remove ventilator, his mother started yelling, a doctor said.

His body was handed over to his parents after the postmortem.
