MULTAN, Dec 9: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Multan, claim to have arrested 70 officials of different departments and recovered Rs4.74 million from their possession during the last month.
The ACE arrested Muhammad Ilyas, former accountant of Vehari DHQ Hospital, and recovered Rs1.5 million from his possession. He was charged to have embezzled the amount from pay bills.
Mehmoodabad assistant food controllers Ismaeel and Azhar Hussain were arrested from Kassowal on the charge of embezzling wheat worth Rs1.32 million. The ACE also recovered money from their possession.
Patwari Imam Baksh and head clerk Qadeer Ahmad of the revenue department were also arrested and the ACE recovered from their possession Rs1.43 million.
The ACE arrested a senior clerk of Multan local government and recovered Rs100,497 from his possession. He was charged to have embezzled money from pay bills.
The rest of the amount was recovered from officials of education, revenue, food, police and local government departments.
WITHOUT SALARIES: Eighty teachers of 14 middle and primary schools of Jalalpur Peerwala have not been given salaries for the last seven months.
Before the local elections, these school were under the Lodhran district, but now services of these schools have been handed over to the district education, Multan.
Since the Multan DE office has not enlisted these schools, neither the Lodhran nor the Multan DE offices are releasing salaries to teachers.
The teachers have demanded that authorities concerned should make arrangements to disburse them salaries before Eid.—Nouman
