PONTE VEDRA BEACH (Florida), May 3: Czech tennis player Bohdan Ulihrach awaits a heavy punishment for testing positive for the steroid nandrolone, the ATP announced on Friday.

Ulihrach will receive a two-year suspension retroactive to October 26, a fine of 43,770 dollars and a forfeiture of 100 ranking points after an independent Tennis Anti-Doping Program tribunal determined that his urine sample taken at the Moscow tournament on October 3 tested positive for metabolites of nandrolone, a Class 1 banned substance.

At Ulihrach’s request, the three-member tribunal was appointed to review the evidence surrounding his positive test. The trio convened April 23 in Jacksonville, Florida and concluded that Ulihrach had committed a doping offence.

The 28-year-old Ulihrach, who has earned more than three million dollars in career prize money, chose a voluntary suspension once notified of the positive test.

His suspension will end Oct 25, 2004 - two years to the day following his last match played on the circuit.—AFP
