MIRPURKHAS, May 3: The growers associations of Mirpurkhas have alleged that the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, is providing more water to Kot Ghulam Mohammad irrigation sub- division as a result growers of Mirpurkhas sub-division are suffering.

Talking to journalists here on Saturday, Imtiaz Panhwar, general secretary, Sindh Abadgar Board, Mirpurkhas, Rais Ahmed Khan, president. Sindh Agriculture Development Association, and others accused the water board director of interfering in the affairs of the Jamrao division.

They said that due to his intervention, water rotation programme was not being implemented and water was being provided to Kot Ghulam Muhammad sub-division through 12.2 feet gauge of Jhillori regulator against its approved 7.2 foot gauge. They added that land of the water board director and mango orchards of influential landlords lied in Kot Ghulam Mohammad area.

The growers’ leaders complained that six water channels of the Mirpurkhas sub-division— Mirpur distributary, Doso Distributary, Kaho Minor, Kaho Visro Minor, Bareji Distributary and Sanhro Minor, were lying dry.

They further said that according to water rotation programme, water should be provided to different areas on alternate week but the irrigation officials were not strictly implementing the programme and providing the water to their favourite landlords.

They demanded of the Sindh minister and secretary of irrigation to take notice of the interference of the water board director into the Jamrao division affairs and ensure water supply to Mirpurkhas sub-division.
