Jamshed Dasti released from Multan jail

MULTAN: Former National Assembly member Jamshed Dasti was released on Thursday from Multan Jail a day after the Lahore High Court Multan bench had overturned his conviction in a fake degree case against him, DawnNews reported.

Jamshed Dasti was convicted for three years and fined Rs 5,000 by a district and sessions judge last week for possessing a fake degree. He was also disqualified to contest the upcoming polls.

Dasti had filed an appeal in Multan High Court against his conviction.

To welcome him on his release, a large number of supporters gathered outside the jail.

While speaking to media personnel outside the jail premises, Dasti praising the judiciary said that he would contest elections from NA-177 and NA-178 constituency.

I thought his degree was fake all along. Well, if it was then why is he a) walking out of jail b) able to contest the elections again? Or is he using his 'get out of jail free card'.

A completely opposite decision by another court. Is there going to be a law suit against the district & session judge who found Jamshed's degree fake at the first place. Is thist a story of corrupt judge?

When big fishes are allowed to contest elections after plundering millions of rupees then why not a poor person like Jamshed Dasti is allowed to contest the election at least he is not mired with corruption

it is a law of jungle. Some with fake degrees are still in jails and this guy is released. It shows that every one has a price tag and criminals go free.

I need to understand how come one court convicts him and another acquits him against the same charge. Aren't they supposed to use the same law book?

hello pakistan what a fantastic -alice in wonderland-country pakistan has become-a convict comes out of jail and o behold he is got supporters gathered to welcome him and not only that he is about to fight for seat in general election! where are amendments 62 & 63 now? can anyone enlighten us living abroad of this sort of constitution. be very obliged to receive any comments. thanking you

People like him need to be in jail and disqualified from contesting elections during their lifetime! If he is innocent then the Chairman HEC should go to jail! The corrollary is simple!

I think the evaluation process should be timed six months earlier than the filing of nomination papers and all the requisite clearances should be available earlier so that candidates can focus beyond the filing of papers and work on the electioneering process rather than being caught up in a clearance maze.

Dasti you name stand cleared for ever from any wrong doing. The bureaucracy which had wrongly implicated you in the first instance must now stand trial. Why the hell they are never clear how to assign and assess qualifications which are some what different from their own ambiguous standards. Dasti would never have been evicted if his degree was fake. His conviction was wrongful at a lower court. Good that justice has been served fast. Dast if you would have been running from my area ,I would have surely voted for you. You come from masses and deserve to lead them . Feudal system watch out there are more Dastis on the way.
