ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday night took suo motu notice of news reports regarding fake degrees of 54 former legislators.

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and fixed Monday as the date of hearing.

The HEC Chairman, Dr Javaid Leghari, had sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim informing him that the documents of 54 former lawmakers had been found to be fake.

The certificates of 189 other members remained unverified, he said.

We, the overseas Pakistanis feel much shame when somebody asks about our politicians fake certificates. They also have doubts about our degrees and certificates that we produce for applying a job in any of the reputable companies. I request the honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan for arranging to stop this shameful exercise of people of Pakistan and not allow any one for the nomination and participation of national or provincial assemblies' candidate becoming a member in our forthcoming general election.

In addition to proven fake degree holders, those MPAs who did not obey the SC / ECP orders to present their degrees for verification, should also be disqualified for life, repeat for life time.
