ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday assured a consortium of leading Islamic financial institutions that the Neelum-Jhelum, Golen Gol and Dubair-Khawar hydro projects would be completed as per schedule to generate 1205MW.

It also pledged to resolve related issues keeping in view energy crisis in the country.

The joint supervisory mission from leading Islamic financing institutions, comprising Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Development, and Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) held a meeting with a Pakistani delegation, led by Secretary of Water and Power, Sikander Ahmed Rai, to review completion of three under-construction hydro-power projects.

The water and power secretary informed the mission that the government had already allocated funds for such projects and financial support of the donors would help complete the project in time.

Progress on the three projects was being reviewed and monitored on a regular basis as the country was facing energy shortage.

Wapda chairman briefed the joint mission that 72MW Khan-Khawar hydro and 122MW Allai Khawar projects have been completed, and the remaining three projects of 1205MW would be completed as per schedule.

The Dubair-Khawar project is scheduled to be completed by June this year; the 969MW Neelum-Jhelum hydro project to be completed by 2016 and 106MW Golen Gol project would be completed by 2015.

He also informed that the government had approved Rs24 billion for Neelum-Jhelum project, and 47 per cent work on tunnel boring had been completed on the project.

The joint mission appreciated the progress on the three projects and assured the ministry of its continued support for energy projects in Pakistan. The mission would visit sites of all the three projects.
