KARACHI, March 8: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist was killed in New Karachi on Friday, police said.

They said two men on a motorcycle pulled up at a barber shop in the New Karachi Industrial Area. One of them entered the shop and pumped a single bullet in the chest of Mohammad Irshad, 30, and walked away while firing shots into the air.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the police said.

Following the shooting, tension gripped the locality and markets were closed. New Karachi SP Salman Hussain said the assailant was wearing a helmet. The police said the slain man was a worker of the Unit 141 of the MQM’s organisational structure.
